Changan EADO Plus 1.4T Performance — Blue Whale Engine & 7-Speed DCT Explained
Power, torque, weight and fuel use of the EADO Plus 1.4T turbo — and how it stacks up against the 1.5T EADO and the 1.5L manual Plus.
By EVtoU

The EADO Plus uses Changan's JL473ZQ9 1.4-litre Blue Whale NE turbo engine: 118 kW (160 PS) in 2023–2025 models and 110 kW (149 PS) in the 2026 Plus, with 260 N·m available from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. It drives the front wheels through a 7-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox and uses 6.40–6.65 L/100 km on the WLTC cycle. Blue Whale is the name of the engine family; some English-language material calls it Blue Core.

How does it feel to drive?
Changan does not publish a 0–100 km/h time for the EADO Plus, so we compare on paper. Peak torque arrives at just 1,500 rpm, which is what makes a small turbo feel strong when pulling away and overtaking. With about 119 PS per tonne (160 PS, 1,340 kg), the Plus has less in reserve than the 1.5T EADO at about 146 PS per tonne — but plenty for city and highway work.
Why a wet dual-clutch gearbox?
A dual-clutch transmission pre-selects the next gear for quick, efficient shifts. In a wet DCT, the clutches run in oil, which carries heat away — an advantage in stop-start traffic and hot climates compared with dry-clutch designs. Follow the manufacturer's service schedule for transmission fluid.
How does it compare with the other EADO engines?
| Engine | Power | Torque | Gearbox | WLTC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5L NA (2025 Plus MT) | 81 kW / 110 PS | 152 N·m @ 4,000 rpm | 5-speed manual | 6.50 |
| 1.4T Blue Whale NE (Plus) | 118 kW / 160 PS | 260 N·m | 7-speed DCT | 6.40–6.65 |
| 1.5T JL473ZQA (2024–2025 EADO) | 125 kW / 170 PS | 260 N·m | 7-speed DCT | 6.14 |
| 1.5T JL473ZQD (2025–2026 EADO) | 141 kW / 192 PS | 310 N·m | 7-speed DCT | 6.2–6.4 |
Which buyers should choose the 1.4T Plus?
Choose the 1.4T Plus when price per car and a large 53-litre tank matter more than outright performance — taxi fleets, rental and budget retail. If your market prefers manual gearboxes, the 2025 EADO Plus Luxury MT pairs a simple 1.5L engine with a 5-speed manual. For more power, see the 2026 EADO 1.5T.
